Citizenship Ceremony

27 citizens from 9 different countries will be lining up to become new Australian citizens as part of the Citizenship ceremony to be held on 9 July 2008.

Citizens from China, India to the Netherlands and just about everywhere in between, will take part in the proceedings by bringing their rich diversity of cultures and life experiences to Australia by becoming Australians.

Mayor Clr Bart Bassett will officially welcome new citizens at a special ceremony to be held at Windsor Function Centre, in the presence of local and federal members of parliament and other dignitaries.

New citizens are asked to make an oath of allegiance or an affirmation, pledging loyalty to Australia and its people and promising to uphold Australian laws, share in our democratic beliefs and respect the rights and liberties of other Australians.

The new citizens will be able to participate fully in our Australian community, to strengthen the freedom and openness which makes Australia unique. Deciding to become an Australian citizen is the greatest compliment you can make to the people of Australia.

The list of countries that our new citizens come from are:
- China
- India
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Switzerland
- Thailand
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
- Vietnam
