Citizen of the Month for May 2008Hawkesbury City Council is proud to announce the recipient of the Hawkesbury Citizen of the Month award for May 2008 is Dorothy Phipps. Dorothy's contributions to the Hawkesbury community are extensive including volunteer work with the Richmond CWA, the Nepean CWA group, St Peters Anglican Church, the Richmond Players and Quotas Club of Penrith Since 1954, Dorothy has been a member of the well known Richmond Players and is the current president. Her contributions to this organisation span over 50 years in which she has acted, directed, performed front of house, been part of the administration and committee and is the costume organiser. Her long involvement with the Junior Players is most recognisable. Each Monday, Dorothy meets with a group of 5-14 year old students who work together towards performing a play at the end of each year. Dorothy welcomes all the children, regardless of ability or age. In this role Dorothy co-ordinates everything from the scripts to the props to the costumes. Her amazing amount of energy, patience and kindness is highly regarded by the students and parents. Her nominators, the Holt family states "She is regarded by many as an unsung hero and a true asset to the Richmond Players and her community. There would be no Junior Players without her voluntary help." Dorothy has also been a member of the Quotas Club of Penrith since 1971 and is currently the governor for this community organisation raising money for people who are in need or that are less fortunate. Dorothy's contribution to the community is outstanding and well deserving of the Citizen of the Month award for May 2008.
To nominate a person for Citizen of the Month, you will need to fill in a Citizen of the Month nomination form available from Council, The Richmond Club, the local Richmond and Hawkesbury Central Libraries and on Council's website.
